Letters exchanged among members of the Richard Keese (b.1794) family, Keeseville, N.Y., concerning mostly personal and family affairs and activities. More than half the letters were written by John P. Nelson, son-in-law, from New Orleans. Other correspondents include Lydia Hurlbut Keese, Richard H. Keese, and Phebe Keese Barnum of Ferrisburgh, Vt. There are occasional incidental descriptive references to politics, cholera and yellow fever epidemics, a flood in New Orleans, and ocean voyages between New York City and New Orleans. One letter vividly describes the visit of President Martin Van Buren to Keeseville in 1839.
